Welcome to Wow! I Love U. We will be exploring the wonderful yet mysterious human condition that is called love. We will be looking at love in history, love in music and prose and all the different ways that people say to each other “I Love U”. 

I guess a good place to start this site would be to define, as best as possible, what exactly love is. This sounds a lot easier than it is, as love can mean many different things to many different people. Indeed, each one of you may have differing definitions of love depending on what relationship they are asked about. For example, when you say “I Love U” to your parents, you do not mean the same thing as when you say it to your close friends, or your partner or spouse. So to begin with, we can split love into these 3 broad categories.

Love of a Protector

This is the love you feel for a person who has looked after you. The main people who fall into this category are our parents, but other people that you may feel love towards in this way are teachers, other family members, even bosses. These are people who have had a profound impact on who you are, to the point where their influence has helped to shape you and make you the person that you are today. This is a very deep kind of love which is very hard to break.

Love of a Friend

This type of love is usually based around similar interests, beliefs and personalities. Your closest friends generally tend to be the people that you relate to the most, and the people that you relate to the most are generally the people who share some of the same traits as you. For example, if you have a deep love of music, then the friends that you attract to yourself will generally share that interest. If you find certain things amusing, then the friends you acquire will tend towards having the same sense of humour. Although this love is strong, it can be more easily broken than the previously mentioned protector love. Also, in general terms, this love is not vocalised as much. Although there are many exceptions to this rule, less people will say “I Love U” to their friends than they will to their family.

One True Love

For those of us who have been blessed with finding true love, you will understand that this type of love is almost impossible to explain in mere words. Singers, musicians, actors and writers have been trying to depict this type of love through their art since time began, and still no one has come close to being able to convey the sheer enormity of this emotion. Even the word emotion does not come close to categorising it. This is a deeply profound, spiritual experience that you share with that one special person. It surpasses the bonds of companionship and even of family, it is the feeling you have that without that one person you are no longer whole, and the words “I Love U” seem almost too trivial to use to explain to this person how you feel. The bonds of true love are almost impossible to break, and are usually only broken when the feeling of true love is only one sided.

We are not going to be biased towards one type of love here at Wow! I Love U. We truly believe that any type of love is the most important thing in the world. Love is what will ultimately save our planet, and we all need to remember to nurture it whenever we can. It is also important to remember that you need to tell those close to you how you feel every single day. Not only through your words, but also in your actions. There are an infinite number of ways to say “I Love U”, and we will be exploring them through this site. We hope you will join us on the journey.
