Public Declarations of Love

Posted by Julie | Love Declarations |

Do you remember the first time you said “I Love U” to someone? Do you remember the butterflies that were flying around in your belly just before you said it, and the immense feeling of relief after it was out? Do your remember that agonising eternity between saying those words and waiting for them to be reciprocated?

People have been proclaiming their undying love to each other since Adam first laid eyes on Eve, and they have been doing so in so many varied unique ways, that it would take a second Internet to list them all. We are not going to try and accomplish that lofty goal, but we thought we’d begin to share some of the ways of saying I love you.

Telling your special someone how you feel can be a daunting task, it is a nerve racking experience. What is going to happen if they laugh at you? Will they say it back to you? Will they look at you in disgust? So many emotions are linked to this act that it can become overwhelming.

I Love UThat said, there are some brave souls out there who will take it even further to the next level and decide that they are not only going to utter these words to their unsuspecting loved one, but they are going to do so in public.

If you are one of these brave souls, here are a few proposal ideas to get those creative juices flowing…

Skywriting - How much money can you afford? Can you even put a price on something like this? If you have a heap of cash to spare, nothing is going to grab your potential partners attention more than writing in the sky. It is quite possible to hire a professional skywriter to do this for you, but the conditions have to be just right. You want a clear sunny day, with no wind, and you are going to make every effort possible to ensure that they see it. With the expense involved, you are going to want to keep the message as short as possible, but a simple “I Love U” may be mistaken as being for someone else. For that extra impact, put their name on the end (unless you are dating Englebert Humperdinck, that could get costly).

The Big Screen – Maybe your partner is a big football fan, or a hockey freak? Get in contact with the organisers in your area and ask them about advertising rates. Once again, a potentially costly exercise, but well worth it for the impact. Not only will they see their name on the big screen, but imagine their surprise when the cameras swing around and they see their own shocked (and hopefully happy) face up their for the world to see. Of course, you will want to be fairly sure that they feel the same way before doing something like this. An stadium full of people watching on as your partner slowly sits down with their head in their hands can make for a fairly awkward moment.

Singing Telegram – Quirky, but fun. If your loved one has a sense of humour, having a big hairy gorilla knock on the door and sing a love song can be a real blast. This is a great way to get over the awkwardness of the moment, and will be something that you can tell your grand kids about in years to come. Your partners got a gorilla phobia? Maybe a singing granny, or a barbershop quartet would be more to their liking? There is plenty of variety to choose from.

Newspaper or Radio – This is another effective way of declaring your love publicly that will not break the bank. Dedicate your loves favourite song to them on the radio, and make sure your with them and tuned in to the station to see their reaction, or bring them a copy of the local paper with some freshly baked croissants for breakfast, and ask them to peruse the public notices section.

When love takes a grip of your soul, it makes you do crazy things, you may feel like standing on the roof of your house and screaming “I Love U” at the top of your lungs. Do what your heart tells you, take the plunge and tell that special someone the words they are dying to hear.
